FUNKMODE offers Hip Hop, Jazz, Cardio Dance, Fierce Femme, Twerk, Hip Hop and Breakdance classes, Jazz/Contemporary, Hip Hop+, MOVE!, Heels, Family Fun(k), and miniMODE youth performance company activities. The program also provides private lessons, after school programs, birthday parties with a one-hour class including games, activities and a choreographed dance to a song of the family’s choice, special events, and studio space rental.
• Ages: 2–18 years old
• Schedule: Class options are available on weekdays and Saturdays, including morning, afternoon, and evening times.
FUNKMODE’s leadership team includes instructors CARA, MIGHTY, ANGEL, LIL, TJ, C-BASS, and JESS. CARA holds a BFA in Dance Education from Arizona State University, received dance scholarships while attending, has trained in many styles and danced competitively since early childhood, choreographed for AAA’s Earth Quake Safety Program and the Bay Area premiere of “High School Musical,” and has trained and directed Tony award winning/Broadway performers. MIGHTY has taken classes, taught classes, and performed across the country and internationally, learned directly from some of the originators of Hip Hop dance, studied primarily Hip Hop (Freestyle, Funk Styles, B-boy) as well as House and World Dance (Salsa, Tahitian, African, Bhangra, Bollywood), and worked with many Hip Hop dance companies across the SF Bay Area. ANGEL’s training includes FUNKMODE, MTV, Dance Production, and over a decade of teaching experience. LIL, TJ, and C-BASS have training with FUNKMODE, and TJ also has a Dance Minor from San Francisco State University. JESS has 13 years of training in Ballet, Tap, and Jazz.
FUNKMODE’s mission is “To surround our community in a circle of ALL LOVE as we unite through music and movement.” The program has been recognized with “Best of the East Bay” Hip Hop and Breakdance classes. FUNKMODE partners with many schools in the local area to bring Hip Hop and Breakdance classes to hundreds of kids as an after school enrichment activity. The program offers after school programs at schools, birthday parties with the option to use the studio for an after party, and Free Class Week four times per year. Families are told that most everyone dresses as they would to work out, including bringing a water bottle and towel if they have one, and wearing footwear that allows easy movement.
