Kid By Kid 1-on-1 Tutoring follows a kids helping kids model in which Middle and High School student volunteers serve as Tutor/Mentors for under-served Elementary and Middle School-aged immigrant, refugee, and ESL students. Tutors are from across the United States, and Kid By Kid uses technology, open-source content, and easily accessible resources to support one-on-one virtual tutoring. The program’s mission states that Middle and High School Tutor/Mentors provide academic opportunity, support, and assistance to Learners, and that Kid By Kid fosters academic achievement by listening, lending a helping hand, and providing support and inspiration to young Learners. Kid By Kid is a student-led organization and a 501(c)3 non-profit, created, maintained, and run by Founder and President Daxton (Dax) Gutekunst, with the site and organization marked © 2020 by Kid By Kid. Learners are reached in partnership with local school districts, NGOs, and community-based organizations, and Tutors/Mentors are organized through Community Service Clubs at individual Middle and High Schools, including KBK-Coronado Middle School Chapter and KBK-Coronado High School Chapter. The organization states that it thanks its partners and supporters, and mentions the UCSD Center Community Health - Youth Advisory Council (YAC) as an organization a tutor is part of.
