About

Aikido of Tamalpais offers aikido classes that include both fundamental foundations aikido training and advanced aikido training in every class. Training includes empty-handed aikido techniques as well as weapons practice with bokken and jo (sword and staff). As part of the training, students learn to fall safely and painlessly. Classes build upon the fundamentals and explore more complex movements and techniques, with each class tailored to the full range of skill levels present that day.

• Schedule: Office hours with class options are available Monday, Tuesday, Thursday, Friday from 6pm–7:30pm, and Thursday, Saturday, Sunday from 10am–11:30am.

Aikido of Tamalpais has been a center for the study of the Japanese martial art of aikido since its establishment in 1976. The program was founded by Wendy Palmer, George Leonard, and Richard Strozzi-Heckler, who received their black belts from Robert Nadeau Sensei and Frank Doran Sensei. It is affiliated with the aikido world headquarters in Tokyo, Japan, through Aikido Shimbokukai. The program describes itself as a dedicated aikido community and states that aikido works great for its well-being. Students regularly come from Mill Valley, Fairfax, San Rafael, Belvedere, Larkspur, the nearby Marin area, and occasionally from San Francisco to take part in a variety of aikido classes.
