About
¡HolaKids! Spanish Immersion Preschools offers a total Spanish immersion preschool program where children experience the language in meaningful, real-life contexts. Classrooms are set up as small, family-like settings, and the program includes cultural education in which children study a specific Spanish-speaking country each semester, including clothing, food, music, shelter, celebrations, geographic features, wildlife, and family dynamics. The program uses multiage classrooms where older children serve as mentors and take leadership roles, and younger children learn problem-solving techniques and other strategies from older classmates.
• Ages: 3–8 years old
¡HolaKids! Spanish Immersion Preschools focuses on early childhood education in a robust Spanish immersion environment while sharing cultural values from a wide range of Spanish-speaking countries. The program’s mission is to create a concrete, experiential learning foundation that centers on the development and achievement of the whole child in a Spanish immersion environment, with preschools that stimulate, challenge, and create curiosity while engendering self-awareness and respect for others. The program shows interest in developmental education, different learning styles, social-emotional curriculum, and the integration of best educational practices in the immersion classroom, and it has launched dozens of teaching careers since it was founded.
¡HolaKids! was started in 2003 by founder Amory Donohue. The leadership team includes Executive Director Ruth Hernandez and Admission and Operation Director Jheymy Rivera Cruz. The teaching team includes experienced teachers who mentor teachers-in-training in the ¡HolaKids! philosophy and methodology, and teachers are predominantly native speakers.
Campuses are described as small neighborhood campuses, and classrooms are designed to resemble family-like settings. Campuses are located near parks, libraries, post offices, fire stations, and grocery stores, and these neighborhood places are incorporated into the curriculum to strengthen children’s relationship with the local community.
