About
Practical Martial Arts offers Brazilian Jiu Jitsu, striking and kickboxing, and self-defense classes for all, along with programs called Little Dragons, Beginner Kids, Beginner Teens, and Intermediate/Advanced Teens. The program also runs Ninja Camps during school breaks.

Practical Martial Arts has been serving the Marin community for over 30 years. Its Freestyle Mixed Martial Arts style blends Muay Thai kickboxing, Brazilian Jiu-jitsu, traditional boxing, wrestling, Judo, and street self-defense. The dojo uses traditionally structured classes with uniforms and etiquette in a safe and supportive environment. Programs are described as award winning and are embedded with functional life skills and effective self-defense tools, with a focus on developing confidence, character, and community and an emphasis on teaching “heart” to all students. Ninja Camps are available during fall, winter, spring, and summer breaks and are designed to keep kids active, confident, and engaged while school is out, and programs are offered for adults, teens, and kids from age 4 and up.
Founder and co-owner Mike Valentine is a Sensei, a 6th Degree Black Belt, and a 3rd Degree Brazilian Jiu Jitsu Black Belt. Co-owner Karen Valentine is the Program Director and a Self Defense Instructor with a 3rd Degree Black Belt. Head Instructor Eusebio Gallegos holds a 1st Degree Black Belt, and Senior Instructor John Truong holds a 3rd Degree Black Belt. Lead Instructor and Admin Assistant Yisel Rodas and Lead Instructor and Admin Assistant Lola Atherton Rawstorne each hold a 1st Degree Black Belt. Lead Instructor Milo Valentine and BJJ Instructor Levon McCormack are both Brazilian Jiu Jitsu Black Belts.
