Twin Cities Community Preschool

Twin Cities Community Preschool is a play-based, parent-participation preschool with an outdoor-oriented environment. The school follows a child-led philosophy, with a low adult-to-child ratio and a cooperative community where teachers and parent-teachers serve as guides and facilitators. Its curriculum is informed by developmental theories, and the program also offers Summer Camp and Enrichment programs.

Twin Cities Community Preschool began in 1945, when a group of women from the Marin Child Study Section of AAUW created a parent education co-op alongside a nursery school program, and the program has continued operating for more than 75 years. Maureen serves as the director. The program states that it believes in the power of play to foster curiosity, creativity, and collaboration, and that with active parent participation it creates a supportive community where children thrive socially and emotionally, preparing them for a lifetime of learning and exploration. Parents volunteer one morning each week, and the school’s board has lent its expertise to other developing co-ops in Marin. The preschool operates under license number Lic. 210105096 and has a Non-Discrimination Policy stating that it admits students of any race, color, national and ethnic origin and does not discriminate on that basis in its programs and policies. Parents describe the school as play-based and parent-participatory, with professional teachers, a long-time director named Maureen, extensive outdoor space, many play options, and a community where both children and parents form connections.
