About

Matt Leinart Flag Football is a youth flag football program where kids play organized flag football games. The league is for both boys and girls of all skill levels and offers a non-contact football experience that focuses on teamwork, sportsmanship, and skill-building. All teams qualify for the playoffs, except for PreK/K teams, which do not have playoffs.

• Ages: 5–13 years old
• Schedule: Games are run on Friday nights in the Fall, Winter, and Spring, with playoffs scheduled to begin on November 14th and conclude on November 21st.

Founded in Newport Beach in 2010, the Matt Leinart Flag Football League operates in conjunction with the NFL Flag Football program. The goal of the league is to provide a fun league for kids to be involved in, while also developing and furthering their football skills. Costa Mesa League Director: Brandan Safford.

Home teams wear dark jerseys, while visiting teams wear white jerseys. Players are expected to wear their jersey and league-issued shorts; if they do not have league shorts, they should wear black shorts with no pockets and no stripes that make the flag hard to distinguish. For safety reasons, all players must have a mouthpiece, and any player without a mouthpiece will be asked to leave the game. If a player forgets or loses a mouthpiece, replacements are available at the Information tent near the field. All teams have bye weeks when they are not on the schedule, and families can find the schedule on the SportsEngine app.
