CalColor Academy Summer Camp offers art learning that includes clay making, craft making, and exploring culture and history through visual arts. Each camp runs with different themes in the morning and afternoon each week, except for Teen Camp. A typical camp day runs from 8:45–9:00 am drop off, 9:00–10:15 am morning camp curriculum, 10:15–10:45 am snack or outdoor activity, 10:45 am–12:00 pm morning camp curriculum, 12:00–1:00 pm lunch break, 1:00–2:15 pm afternoon camp curriculum, 2:15–2:45 pm snack or outdoor activity, 2:45–4:00 pm afternoon camp curriculum, and 4:00–4:15 pm pick up. Lunch is not provided by default, and families can either order lunch separately from WeBox, a third-party vendor, or pack their child’s lunch. The teacher-student ratio is 1:10, with teen and digital camps up to 1:15 at some sites.
CalColor Academy is a fine art school for youth ages 4–18 years old and offers fine art classes for kids ages 4–12 with 1.5–2 hour classes, fine art classes for teens ages 11–18 with 2 hour classes 1–3 times per week, and digital art classes for ages 7–18 with 1.5–2 hour classes. CalColor Academy is described as the largest professional art school in the San Francisco Bay Area and offers CalColor online school in addition to in-person programs. The camps are tailored by age and described as designed for maximum fun and learning, with different themes in the morning and afternoon each week except for Teen Camp.
The school’s mission is to inspire youth to cultivate an individual artistic voice and enrich the community through visual arts education, exhibitions, and lecture series, with a professional team dedicated to providing a safe, fun, and inclusive learning environment for students. CalColor Academy’s leadership includes Lan Liu as CalColor’s Principal. The school’s history includes a home studio founded by Lan from 2009–2013 with 100 students, the launch of the Fremont studio and CalColor Academy brand in 2014, becoming the largest art school in the East Bay in 2016, opening the Mountain View campus in 2017, opening the Cupertino campus and becoming the largest art school in the SF Bay Area in 2018, opening the San Jose and Newark campuses in 2019, establishing CalColor online school in 2020, and celebrating its 10-year anniversary with the Belmont campus grand opening in 2023.
CalColor Academy reports that 100% of its students received a score of 4 or 5 on AP Art, a 90% top art college acceptance rate, an average scholarship amount of $100,000, and more than 150 yearly Scholastic Art award winners.
