Cupertino Shotokan Dojo (Shotokan Karate of America) offers training in Shotokan Karate as a traditional martial art. Participants practice karate techniques with an emphasis on mental strength and natural, realistic techniques. Beginners are always welcome, and no special equipment is needed beyond comfortable clothing suitable for vigorous exercise.
• Ages: 7–18 years old
• Schedule: Practices on Tuesdays and Thursdays, with separate class times for kids and adults
The program holds practices on Tuesdays and Thursdays, with kids ages 7–12 scheduled from 6:30 pm to 7:10 pm and adults 13 and older from 7:15 pm to 8:45 pm. YMCA membership and pre-registration are required for kids ages 7–12, and YMCA membership is required for adults 13 and older.
The Cupertino Shotokan Dojo is led by Curt Wvong. The dojo held its first practice in April 2010, paused for the pandemic, and resumed in 2022. It is a member dojo of Shotokan Karate of America, a not-for-profit organization that has been teaching karate in the U.S. since 1955.
The dojo’s mission is to teach Shotokan Karate as a traditional martial art, with practice that emphasizes the development of mental strength and natural, realistic techniques. It is not a commercial karate school, does not require a contract, and does not sell packages or programs. Students at all levels practice together, helping each other improve and become more confident.
