Steve & Kate’s Camp began in 1980 and has since expanded to more than 70 locations. The Cupertino site lists Don as the camp director. The camp’s stated mission is to give kids freedom in the summer by allowing them to choose which activities they do, whom they do them with, and for how long, and to treat this experience as a training ground for being empowered, independent, resilient, and responsible for their own decisions.

The program notes that campers can attend using either Day Passes or a Summer Pass, with options to buy any number of days and use them on any camp day, drop off and pick up at any time during camp hours, and receive automatic full refunds for unused Day Passes and partial refunds for underused Summer Passes at summer’s end. All-inclusive rates cover all camp hours from 8:00am to 6:00pm, snacks and lunch, and any activities that interest the child, with cuisine that includes rotating specials and healthy snacks and sides available throughout the day. The camp also provides a virtual camp orientation emailed to registered families before camp, which includes information such as local drop-off and pick-up procedures, how to check in and out each day, what to bring and not bring, and other camp details.

For younger children, the program lists Youngest Camper Support Staff dedicated specifically to supporting the youngest campers. Weekly specials may include giant inflatables, musical performances, movement workshops, and a popup petting zoo, and the season ends with a Carnival Day featuring carnival games, extra treats, and chances to win prizes. The camp states that it partners with fan favorite restaurants to provide food that kids enjoy.

Testimonials about Steve & Kate’s Camp include comments from Andrew Stanton, director of WALL-E, Finding Nemo, and Finding Dory, who says that children at the camp “blossom and discover a freedom of identity” and that “kids find their thumbprint at Steve & Kate’s.” Apple’s Hot News states, “If kids ruled the world, it might look something like Steve and Kate’s Camp.” Variety magazine notes that many children of people working at Pixar and Industrial Light & Magic attend, and The Washington Post describes the camp as combining a traditional camp experience with a modern, tech-focused approach. The Chicago Tribune writes that “working parents’ worries dissipate as they contemplate Steve & Kate’s model.”
