Dragon House MMA offers training in Kung Fu, MMA, Jiu-Jitsu, Submission Only Grappling, Gi and No Gi grappling, Kickboxing Sparring, Wrestling, and Conditioning. The program includes Kids MMA classes, Kids MMA Training Classes, Adult Gi and No Gi BJJ classes, Adult MMA classes, Kung Fu classes, SanShou Kickboxing classes, Wall Wrestling & MMA Training, MMA Sparring, and Chinese Cupping Therapy by appointment. Training also includes Traditional Chinese Kung Fu, Chinese SanShou KickBoxing, Brazilian Jiu Jitsu, Wrestling, cross fit/weight training, and cardio.
• Ages: 8–18 years old
• Schedule: Kids and adult classes and open gym options are offered Monday through Saturday at various times in the afternoon and evening.
• Price: White through Brown Belt will pay a competition fee of $65 for one bracket or $90 for both.
Dragon House MMA is led by Sifu Zhong Luo, the founder and owner of Dragon House. Zhong Luo was born into kung fu royalty in Foshan, China, as the son of Bak Mei Grand Master Mai Yu Qiang, and he was recently awarded a 7th degree Black Belt by the Chinese government. His training began at age 3, he performed with the Chinese Circus by age 5, started San Shou at age 12, added power lifting and wrestling at age 14, became a professional San Shou fighter and competitive bodybuilder by 16, and has practiced Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu since 2000, earning his black belt under Clovis Silva in 2017.
Sifu Luo came to San Francisco in 1996 and has grown his school over 26 years from a few students in a garage to progressively larger places. Dragon House states that it welcomes all levels of athletes and martial arts enthusiasts from hobbyist to professional competitors, and that it is a good environment where participants practice safely, respect each other, and share a love for martial arts. Sifu Luo has trained law enforcement officers from various agencies, security guard companies, and world-class athletes including members of the 2013 New Zealand Americas Cup sailing team.
The facility includes over 7,000 square feet of fully equipped gym space, over 5,000 square feet of open mat space, a hot rock sauna, a 1,500 square foot cross fit/weight training room, and a cardio room. Training at Dragon House includes Traditional Chinese Kung Fu styles such as Bak Mei (White Eyebrow) and Lung Ying (Dragon), as well as weapons attack and defense. Chinese Cupping Therapy is available by appointment only, and Dragon House describes itself as both a school and a family. For Kickboxing Sparring events, ages 8 and up can participate in 3x1 minute rounds, and shin guards and headgear are required.
