About

Village Nursery School Cooperative offers a play-based, child-centered curriculum where children take part in a daily project of the day, dancing, singing, art, reading, and age-appropriate activities. Children use the water table, playdough, blocks, and a variety of outdoor play options during free play outdoors, yard time, and outdoor play in the afternoon. The daily routine includes circle time, a sharing circle, morning and afternoon snack times, lunch time, nap time or rest time, and afternoon activities.

• Ages: 2–5 years old
• Schedule: Year-round program with half-day hours Monday–Friday from 9:00 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. and full-day hours from 9:00 a.m. to 5:30 p.m., with early drop-off beginning at 8:00 a.m.

Village Nursery School Cooperative is a small, parent cooperative where families share in running the program and take turns assisting the professional teaching staff, with active parent involvement that includes working one morning per week, attending monthly school meetings, and completing maintenance hours each semester. Children are grouped into the Caterpillar Group for ages 2–3.5 and the Butterfly Group for ages 3.5–5, and the program includes a short, daily session of Pre-K instruction for children the year before they enter Kindergarten or Transitional Kindergarten. The school focuses on children learning independent skills of eating, dressing, and toileting; developing fine and gross motor skills; learning to play and share with each other; enjoying art and music; learning about basic health and safety issues; and learning that school is a safe place to be where they can learn and have fun at the same time, with children also learning pre-academic skills in a kindergarten readiness Pre-K program.

Village Nursery School Cooperative places a strong emphasis on parent education, including learning to deal with aspects of child development such as aggressiveness, shyness, learning disabilities, sibling rivalry, regression, temper tantrums, and separation anxiety, and encourages parents to discipline with understanding and respect using positive language. The program supports potty training by encouraging children to sit on the potty at school and begin the potty training process, and requires that all students and participating parents have all state required immunizations up-to-date, with parents required to have the COVID-19 vaccine to do work days at the school. The school follows strict protocols to protect from COVID-19 by abiding by San Mateo County Health Department guidelines and developing safety strategies tailored to the community, and it has a non-discrimination policy regarding race, color, national origin, ethnic origin, or religion in its educational and admission policies.

Village Nursery School Cooperative is licensed through the State of California Department of Social Services (License #410503442), operates as a 501(c)(3) nonprofit organization, and is described as Daly City's premier co-op preschool. It has been serving families as a parent cooperative since 1953, building a strong community and parent support network for families in Daly City and neighboring communities including San Francisco, Pacifica, Brisbane, and South San Francisco. Tours are held regularly by appointment only.
