• Ages: 1–18 years old
A Change of Pace states its mission as “Improving Lifestyles Through Fitness-Based Events.” A Change of Pace has produced top-quality, high-profile events across the West Coast since 1987 and is a full-service event management and production company based in Davis, California, located 20 miles west of Sacramento. The organization handles permits, course design and measurement, race day logistics, event concepts, equipment rental, marketing, consulting, event registration, and timing, with Maya Miramontes listed as part of the leadership team.
Eligibility for age group, overall, and special division awards is offered for timed divisions only. Overall awards are presented to the top three finishers per gender based on gun time, and age division awards are determined based on placement by net (elapsed) time. Special divisions are offered for Adaptive Athlete, Cancer Survivor, First Responder/Law Enforcement, Stroller, Teacher/Educator, UC Davis Student/Faculty/Staff/Alumni, US Military Veteran, and for Large Dog, Medium Dog, and Small Dog in the 2 Mile. Course etiquette requests that slower participants stay to the right to allow faster participants to pass on the left.
All registration is handled online, and entry fees are based on date of entry, distance chosen, and age, with discounts for youth for the 5K and 10K. All entries are non-refundable and non-transferable to another event, and the event will occur rain or shine. Entries may be transferred to another individual by specified deadlines without a fee via a runsignup account, and participants may change race divisions, with no refund of fee differences when changing to a lower-fee distance. Participants picking up packets are asked to have their QR code ready, safety pins are available at registration with four pins needed per bib, and dogs must be on non-retractable leashes. All strollers and dogs must start toward the back, and dogs must be well-behaved, on non-retractable leashes, comfortable in crowds and around other dogs, and not prone to jumping or barking when excited.
A Change of Pace works alongside several local teams, clubs, and organizations to produce the Davis Turkey Trot. For 2026, A Change of Pace has relationships with Cancer Champions and the Yolo County SPCA as charitable partners. A Change of Pace provides opportunities throughout the year for fundraising to local organizations, including youth groups, youth sports teams, collegiate sports clubs, and non-profit organizations, and provides opportunities for local organizations to fundraise by volunteering at events such as the Davis Turkey Trot, with donations based on the number of volunteers and the timeframe of the group.
A Change of Pace describes volunteers as the backbone of each event, with roles including registration, finish line, water station, and course monitors. It states that volunteering at a running event is fun and intrinsically rewarding while providing the opportunity to be part of the community and meet new people. There are volunteer roles for people of most ages and backgrounds, and no experience is necessary.
The Race Voucher Program allows volunteers to subsequently participate in one of the events at no charge. The program was set up to encourage runners and walkers to volunteer at running races and to provide people facing financial hardship an avenue to participate in running and walking events without paying the entry fee. Race vouchers are provided as unique coupon codes and are only available for certain volunteer tasks with limited space, and assignments marked as “Voucher Eligible” indicate eligibility for race vouchers. People volunteering in the early morning on race day for assignments such as site set-up or registration may use their voucher to participate in the event on the same day at the conclusion of their shift. Vouchers are valid for all A Change of Pace events in the same calendar year from the date of that event onward, unless otherwise stated, and vouchers list the eligible races and are transferable and may be gifted to another person. People participating in the Race for Free Voucher Program cannot simultaneously participate in another volunteer program, such as fundraising.
