Pamela Trokanski Dance Workshop offers Intro to Dance for age 3+ children who must be potty trained and able to separate easily from parents. It also offers Pre-Ballet and Pre-Contemporary for children ages 5 and older, plus Ballet, Pointe, Contemporary, Dance Improvisation, K-pop, Hip Hop, Jazz, Tap, and Belly Dance.

Programs

  • Intro to Dance (Age 3+) — Age 3+ · Great first class for children who must be potty trained and able to separate easily from parents.
  • Pre-Ballet — Children ages 5 and older · Focuses on body awareness, strength, symmetry, spatial thinking, musicality, impulse control, and language acquisition.
  • Pre-Contemporary — Children ages 5 and older · Focuses on body awareness, strength, symmetry, spatial thinking, musicality, impulse control, and language acquisition.
  • Ballet — Beginning I concentrates on body alignment and an introduction to the basics of ballet; subsequent classes expand on this foundation.
  • Pointe — Integrated into the ballet syllabus once a student has reached Level 4 standards and has the required technical level, alignment, physical strength, and physical development.
  • Contemporary — Focuses on core strength, correct alignment, contraction and release, fall and recovery, leaps, turns, jumps, strength, flexibility, and agility.
  • Dance Improvisation — The art of creating dance without prior rehearsal.
  • K-pop — Described as high-energy, hip-hop inspired dances performed to original choreography.
  • Hip Hop — Students are taught street-funk moves and dances consisting of various street styles.
  • Jazz — Characterized by isolations, syncopated rhythms, polyrhythmic patterns, and movement that ripples out from the center of the body.
  • Tap — Characterized by using the sound of tap shoes hitting the floor as a percussive instrument; includes Rhythm Tap and Broadway Tap.
  • Belly Dance — Tribal Fusion Belly Dance; no previous dance experience necessary.

Pamela Trokanski Dance Workshop is celebrating 42 years of Dance in Davis. Its mission statement says the program believes in dance as an important tool for helping people become their best selves and live their best possible lives, and that dance affects bodies, brains, and a sense of being. The mission also says dance can build healthy connections with the physical self, creative possibilities, and the community.
