DJUSD Early Learning Center Preschool is a state and fee based, family-centered preschool program for children ages 3–5 years old. The program is an inclusive preschool site with a variety of classrooms to support individual needs, and children may participate in learning opportunities in any of these classrooms and on the playground. Classrooms are intentionally designed to be inclusive and accessible to children with diverse needs and interests, and children with disabilities learn alongside peers who do not have identified special education needs. The program embraces diversity, celebrates each child's unique strengths and abilities, and uses inclusive and neurodiversity affirming practices in all aspects of the program. All educators receive training in inclusive teaching strategies, and all children are taught by educators with experience in individualizing instruction.
The program’s mission states that children learn best through hands-on activities and experiences and by exploring their environment. The mission explains that learning is described as successfully doing tasks independently through active thinking and experimenting to find out how things work and to learn first hand about the world. The mission also states that young children learn best in a child-initiated and child-centered environment, with overall goals for children ages 3–5 to grow and develop to their full potential. According to the mission, the program’s objectives include promoting the child’s health and well-being, helping the child develop a positive self-image, enhancing physical, social, emotional, and intellectual development, developing language skills, building understanding of number concepts, promoting creativity, helping the child feel proud of their culture and appreciate other cultures, and supporting the family in their role as primary educators.
The district associated with DJUSD Early Learning Center Preschool has earned the Best Community for Music Education Award. The leadership team includes Angie and Tereadel, who can be contacted via the email addresses provided in the original source.
