About
WAVE Volleyball Youth Programs offers indoor volleyball training, beach volleyball training, volleyball camps, and volleyball clinics. The program also operates an adult beach league in addition to its youth offerings.

WAVE Volleyball Youth Programs is part of WAVE Volleyball, which was established in 1998, with ownership by Brennan and Kristen Dean beginning in 2012 and a facilities expansion completed in 2015. The organization is family-owned, family-operated, and family-oriented, and offers comprehensive indoor and beach volleyball training for boys and girls from kindergarten through 12th grade, as well as adult beach league opportunities. Club indoor volleyball provides players from 18U–9U the chance to practice, train, and compete against other club volleyball teams either locally, regionally, or nationally, and WAVE offers competitive national club teams for girls and boys that compete on a seasonal basis. WAVE’s Beach Club is consistently ranked among the best in the country and offers a variety of year-round training opportunities, along with several indoor and beach programs for boys and girls at a variety of skill levels for athletes just learning the game and getting started. Volleyball camps and clinics are offered year-round, provide foundational training for players of all ages and ability levels, offer flexibility in joining one or more sessions, and are open to all players regardless of club affiliation. Facilities are designed strictly for volleyball athletes and their families, with easy access, ample room around each court, high ceilings, and hundreds of volleyballs. WAVE stresses development of fundamental technical skills, learning to work together as a team, and personal habits that lead to success in any walk of life.
The leadership team includes Brennan Dean as Executive Indoor Director and owner and Executive Director of WAVE Volleyball Club, Matt Olson as Executive Beach Director, Doug Forsyth as Director of Facilities, Kristen Dean as Programs & Finance Director, and Madi Fields as Sr. Director of Operations. WAVE Volleyball Club’s mission is to produce technically skilled volleyball players who aspire to compete at the highest possible level, using highly trained coaches who provide focused, skill-based instruction in a supportive, team-building environment, and cultivating a strong work ethic, a passion for competition, and a commitment to team culture. Brennan and Kristen Dean created a non-profit that creates opportunity for kids to play volleyball where volleyball is not easily accessible in the United States and helps kids play club volleyball across the country.
Executive Indoor Director Brennan Dean has been coaching since 2004 and is the Varsity Head Coach of the Torrey Pines High School girls volleyball program. His teams have garnered numerous California Interscholastic Federation (CIF) section championships and have consistently been nationally ranked at both the high school and club levels, and he has coached players who have gone on to play at NCAA Division 1 universities and as professional players overseas. He was named the 2015 CIF and California State Volleyball Coach of the Year, and in 2019 his Torrey Pines High School team won the Open Division of California State and was awarded National Champions, and he was named National High School Coach of the Year. He was the recipient of the 2018 American Volleyball Coaches Association Club Director of the Year and has a decade of professional counseling experience in the San Dieguito Union High School District, where he has held Head Counselor and District Head Counselor positions. He is an alumnus of Chico State University and Point Loma Nazarene University.
Executive Beach Director Matt Olson graduated Cum Laude from the University of Arizona in 2004 with a BS in Physical Education. His background includes being league MVP at Grossmont Junior College, Mountain Region MVP in 2002, and National Collegiate Club Champion in 2002 and 2003 with All-Tournament 1st Team honors in 2002. He served as co-head coach for the Arizona Women’s Club Team from 2001–2003 and as manager for the University of Arizona Women’s Division One Volleyball team during the 2003–2004 season. At WAVE, he has been Head Coach for WAVE 13’s in 2006, assistant coach at La Costa Canyon High School where the team won back-to-back CIF championships and finished 3rd in the state in 2007, WAVE Boys Director/Coordinator from 2006–2009, WAVE Volleyball Associate Director & Director of Operations from 2010–2014, and WAVE Beach Executive Director from 2012 to the present. He was named 2016 ACVA Beach Club Coach of the Year. As a professional beach volleyball player on the AVP Tour from 2000–2013, he held a national top 40 individual ranking or better from 2004–2013, competed in 134 professional domestic events with 83 top 10 finishes and 34 top 5 finishes, won the 2008 AVP Belmar Open and the 2011 AVP Championships Huntington Beach, and is 50th all-time in prize money with $271,305.00. He appeared on the cover of Volleyball Magazine in August 2009 and DIG Magazine in 2011, and was a CIF Champion in 1997 and 1998 at La Costa Canyon, as well as League MVP and Team Captain.
WAVE Volleyball has been ranked the #1 Club in California in TCS / US Rankings for 2023, 2024, and 2025. The club’s teams have earned titles including 2025 BVCA & AAU 14U National Champions and AAU 16U National Champions. Individual honors within the organization include Brennan Dean’s awards as 2015 CIF and California State Volleyball Coach of the Year, 2019 National High School Coach of the Year, and 2018 American Volleyball Coaches Association Club Director of the Year, as well as Matt Olson’s recognition as 2016 ACVA Beach Club Coach of the Year.
