About
CompuChild of Mountain House, Lathrop, and Manteca offers after-school enrichment classes that include activities such as “Young Designers: Build Your Own Toys with CAD & 3D Pen,” “Investing in Stocks, Bonds, and More,” and “National Science Bowl Quest: Experiment, Learn, & Excel.” In these classes, students use CAD and 3D pens with plastic filament to turn ordinary drawings into 3D works of art, are introduced to 3D printing technology, and take part in hands-on experiments, interactive games, and friendly quiz-style challenges that mirror the National Science Bowl experience. The program also includes activities in blogging, programming, animation, finance, entrepreneurship, and robotics, using a variety of educational software while focusing on technology curriculum.

CompuChild has been providing STEM and STEAM based after-school enrichment classes to children since 1994 and has been franchising since 2001. Since 1994, CompuChild has stated that it is dedicated to preparing children for the academic challenges of tomorrow through technology education today. CompuChild is one of the two children’s education franchises to have received the STEM Provider Certification from Cognia for its commitment to high-quality STEM education. CompuChild enriches thousands of children every week through supplemental and after-school programs at child care centers, elementary schools, and community centers in the United States and Canada.
The program’s focus is described as Entrepreneurial STEAM, which includes science and technology, finance and business, communication, and ethics. Its curriculum uses hands-on activities and interactive involvement of students, with an emphasis on collaboration, cooperation, and a positive environment. Instructors model proper care and consideration for computers and peripheral equipment, and CompuChild instructors bring robotic kits, electrical circuit kits, computers, tablets, projectors, and similar equipment to class, while children do not bring materials and do not take the reusable robotic and electrical circuit parts home. Courses are designed to challenge students based on their level of understanding, with a typical student/teacher ratio of about 15:1 for hands-on classes such as robotics and electrical circuits, about 24:1 for other classes, and about 8:1 in online classes. Most classes have a final project where children demonstrate what they have learned through props, posters, and presentations, and CompuChild reports that it has a diverse set of curricula in STEM and entrepreneurship, offers after-school enrichment classes throughout the year including summer camps, and does not expect to repeat the same course for the same level student for approximately two years.
Franchisee testimonials describe training and support from CompuChild management and materials. One franchisee from North Fulton, GA, reports benefiting from ad hoc training on a newly launched animation course and describes the instruction manual as comprehensive. Another franchisee from Tri-City, CA, states feeling well prepared to market CompuChild to schools and after-school centers and to expand by hiring employees using the lesson plans. A franchisee from Northeast Arkansas, AR, notes using the mobile intranet to connect with other franchisees and discuss student questions. A franchisee from North Austin, TX, reports that CompuChild management guided and supported them in winning multiple summer camp opportunities within a month of starting the franchise business. A franchisee from Greenville, SC, describes a positive culture and a strong relationship between franchisees and franchisors during a long-term association.
