About

East Palo Alto T-Ball & Pitching Machine includes T-Ball and Pitching Machine activities that teach basic baseball skills. The program also runs a Junior Giants program that includes a focus on sportsmanship.

• Ages: 4–9 years old
• Price: Junior Giants program provided youth in the region an opportunity to learn the game free of charge.

The program’s mission is to educate the community about the old Negro League organizations that played from the late 1800s to the early 1950s, to promote the importance of academic skills in the classroom, and to provide youth ages 4–9 with basic baseball skills and sportsmanship. East Palo Alto T-Ball & Pitching Machine was created as part of a joint effort by residents and the City to “reclaim” the parks in East Palo Alto. In 1994, the T-Ball & Pitching Machine partnered with the San Francisco Giants to expand programming through the Junior Giants program, and this partnership helped provide funds to renovate and upgrade Jack Farrell Park and to work with the Positive Coaching Alliance. Over thirty years, the organization has served thousands of children in East Palo Alto and Las Vegas, and many participants have gone on to attend and graduate from college while now leading successful lives. By 2003, founder Coach Gene expanded the Junior Giants program to Las Vegas, and both locations continue to operate under his tutelage as a 501c3 that relies on volunteers and sponsorship. The leadership team includes founders Gene Tate (Coach Gene), Sam Jordan, and Ray Kennon, along with personal trainers Coach Gene Tate, Sharifa Wilson, and Ayinde Tate. The organization describes itself as empowering futures through sports and serving as a vehicle of change in the lives of children, and it accepts donations, sponsorships that can be shown on uniforms, banners, or at the park, and discreet giving coordinated via email.
