About
East Palo Alto T-Ball & Pitching Machine offers T-Ball and Pitching Machine baseball, along with participation in the Junior Giants program. Children practice basic baseball skills and are taught sportsmanship as part of the program’s activities.
• Ages: 4–9 years old
• Price: The Junior Giants program provided youth in the region an opportunity to learn the game free of charge.
The program’s mission includes educating the community about the old Negro League organizations that played from the late 1800s to the early 1950s, promoting the importance of academic skills in the classroom, and providing youth ages 4–9 with basic baseball skills and sportsmanship. The organization was created as part of a joint effort by residents and the City to “reclaim” the parks in East Palo Alto. In 1994, East Palo Alto T-Ball & Pitching Machine partnered with the San Francisco Giants through the Junior Giants program, which helped provide funds to renovate and upgrade Jack Farrell Park and allowed collaboration with the Positive Coaching Alliance. Over thirty years, the organization has served thousands of children in East Palo Alto and Las Vegas, and the Junior Giants program was expanded to Las Vegas by founder Coach Gene by 2003.
The leadership and founding team includes Coach Gene Tate (founder, Personal Trainer), Sharifa Wilson (Personal Trainer), Ayinde Tate (Personal Trainer), and program founders Gene Tate, Sam Jordan, and Ray Kennon. The organization relies on volunteers and sponsorship to keep programming low or free to families, and offers sponsorship options where companies or brands can be represented on uniforms, banners, or at the park, as well as fundraiser roles such as t-shirt sponsorship or presenting partner. Discreet donations are also an option, with direct follow-up on how to provide support.
