FIRST Youth Robotics Programs introduces students to robot design, coding, and robotics challenges that include engineering challenges and competition. The program features hands-on STEM learning and hands-on STEM education through activities connected to yearly themes. FIRST robotics programs are described as more than STEM afterschool programs and are referred to as “More Than Robots®.”

FIRST is the world’s leading youth robotics community, delivering hands-on STEM learning that inspires innovation, builds confidence, and prepares kids for life. FIRST robotics programs deliver hands-on STEM education to schools, afterschool programs, and community learning spaces, with each program offering fun, age-appropriate challenges tied to a yearly theme. FIRST Tech Challenge engages middle and high school students in robot design, coding, and competition, and connects students to mentorships and career exploration opportunities. FIRST Robotics Competition empowers high school students to engineer industrial-sized robots for large-scale competition, where students work side-by-side with mentors and gain technical, teamwork, and leadership experience. FIRST introduces students to mentors and STEM professionals and connects every team to a global network of young innovators in 114 countries, with a culture described as Coopertition®. FIRST has operated as a not-for-profit organization for more than three decades, has had more than 4 million youth participants since 1989, and reports that 83% of its alumni pursue STEM majors by year four of college and that 96% of its students overcome challenges through program participation. Across the globe, students in FIRST programs are described as thriving through mentorship, teamwork, creativity, and engineering challenges, supported by dedicated mentors and coaches.
