About

Live In Peace Programs offers mentoring, counseling, tutoring, coaching, and advocating for youth and young adults. The programs include a high school academic re-engagement program called SWAG (Students Who Achieve Greatness), a Gap-Year cohort model for exploring post–high school options, and a college scholarship and support program called the College Initiative. Participants also take part in project-based learning in the Live in Peace Bike Shop and in the Live In Peace Junior Golf Program, which includes golf lessons, mentorship, and academic tutoring.

Live In Peace’s mission is to empower youth and young adults to reclaim the vision for their future. Programs focus on youth and young adults that are not served by other programs and partners and those identified by their high schools as the most at-risk for dropping out. The organization’s model includes hiring local community leaders, building supportive relationships with youth, developing skills and creating opportunities for success, and graduating self-sufficient, highly educated, socially conscious young leaders. The core methodology comes from the Alive & Free model in San Francisco (also known as Street Soldiers), a personal development model rooted in nonviolence and healing. SWAG is a high school academic re-engagement program resulting from a partnership between Live In Peace, the County of San Mateo, and Sequoia Union High School District. The Live In Peace Junior Golf Program provides students access to the sport of golf through lessons, mentorship, and academic tutoring while teaching and instilling stated life skills and values. The Live in Peace Bike Shop was built on the understanding that most young people thrive in project-based learning, even when they are not successful in traditional academic settings. The Executive Director is Dr. Heather Starnes-Logwood, Ed.D.
