About
Griffin Performance Judo offers training in judo and Brazilian Jiu-jitsu for children and teens. Classes take place at the Griffin Performance Judo dojo and include instruction in both judo and Brazilian Jiu-jitsu techniques.
• Ages: 5–18 years old
The leadership team includes Adham, an owner of Griffin Judo and a professional judoka representing Griffin Performance Judo; Cody “Three Bears” Costello, an owner and contributing sensei; Jonathan Cotte, one of the owners and Director of Operations; Carmen Cotte, Dojo Administrator and Front Desk Manager; Antoine Cotte, Team Griffin Captain; and Abdelrahman Mohamed, a professional judo athlete from Egypt. Adham is a member of the Egyptian National Team, holds a 4th-degree black belt in judo, and has International-level coach certification with the International Judo Federation. Cody is a seasoned sensei and teacher of judo, holds a 3rd-degree black belt in judo and a purple belt in Jiu-jitsu, and is leading an afterschool judo program in over a dozen schools in the Bay Area. Jonathan holds a 3rd-degree black belt in judo, a National Coach Certification with USA Judo, and is a National judo champion. Carmen also practices both judo and jiu-jitsu while managing dojo administration and the front desk. Antoine is a Regional level coach and serves as Team Griffin Captain, leading national and international competitors.
Additional instructors include Newton Casemiro, who received his judo black belt in 2003 from Sensei Mel Augustine in Albany, wrestled through high school and was inducted into the Albany High Hall of Fame, started learning Brazilian Jiu-jitsu under Master Eduardo Fraga, received his Brazilian Jiu-jitsu black belt in 2011, and currently holds a 3rd-degree black belt in both judo and Brazilian Jiu-jitsu. Anthony Chan is a Shodan and is an essential member of the after-school instructor team, working to promote grassroots judo throughout the Bay Area. Abdelrahman Mohamed holds a Sandan (3rd-degree) black belt, is a 9-time African medalist with 5 golds and 4 bronze medals, achieved 5th place at the World Championship Junior Teams, and has represented Egypt in multiple World Championships. Griffin Performance Judo offers a free trial for new participants.
