About
Bike Adventures for Kids offers spring after school rides, summer camp, and bike adventures that focus on riding bikes and mountain biking. The program is described as Fairfax's First Bike Camp and is women-owned and run. Kids ride bikes and take part in mountain biking while exploring Marin's outdoors by bike, with an emphasis on teamwork, confidence building, and bike handling.
• Schedule: Spring after school rides and summer camp options
Bike Adventures for Kids was established in 2006, and Laura started the program 18 years ago. Laura is a registered nurse and is Wilderness First Aid Certified. Laura is the former head coach of the Drake Mountain Bike Team and is currently a head coach for the Archie Williams Mountain Bike Team. Hannah is a former racer and captain of the Drake High School Mountain Bike Team and is the Head Coach of the Fairfax Fat Tire Flyers Mountain Bike Development Team. Hannah was honored with the NorCal Mountain Bike League's 2017 Achievement Award and has participated in several NorCal MTB Trail Stewardship Camps. Many kids return year after year as campers and then as counselors, and the program provides kids with a safe and positive experience. Hannah has a love of the outdoors, a passion for cycling, and leadership skills, and she sees many of her campers join the NorCal MTB League at the middle school level and then move into high school competition and beyond.
The mission of Bike Adventures for Kids is to start a child’s summer of fun with bike adventures, where they discover possibilities for adventure in their own backyard and feel the freedom of exploring Marin's outdoors by bike. The program places emphasis on teamwork, confidence building, and bike handling, and Laura believes that riding bikes should be fun whether a child likes to shred or just take in the scenery.
Parent feedback includes comments such as, “Best bike camp ever!!” from Nina. One parent, Raquel, shared that her two sons, who are three years apart and at different mountain biking skill levels, both faced new challenges, polished their riding skills, and enjoyed the group’s daily adventures during summer camp with Laura and her assistant Julian. Another parent, Mark, said that Katie started the week as a very tentative bike rider and finished as a confident rider who enjoys getting on a bike and who learned important safety and motivational lessons, and he described Laura as a great teacher and role model, especially for a girl.
