The Bay Area Classical Artist Atelier was founded to further the practice and education of artists working in the Old Masters methods in the Classical Realist tradition. Its mission includes drawing and painting workshops taught by master artists and instructors, and classes with long-pose sessions for drawing and painting from casts, still life, live models, and self-portraits. The program also includes gallery and museum visits and seminars to enhance the study of contemporary classical realism, in an intimate atelier setting based on the methods and procedures of Tony Ryder and Ted Seth Jacobs. BACAA activities are open to all artists interested in working in the Classical Realist tradition of the old masters, in a supportive, collaborative, inspiring, student-friendly learning environment.

Linda Dulaney is the founder of BACAA and is a lifelong artist whose most influential teachers were Tony Ryder, Ted Seth Jacobs, and Michael Grimaldi. She currently teaches the ongoing daytime classes at BACAA and taught and mentored students at Stanford University from 2013–2017. Starting in the mid 1990s, she developed a clear understanding of the style and type of instruction she wanted in an atelier, and BACAA has been active from 2008 to 2026.

Linda Dulaney’s drawing of Tiana was a finalist in the ARC 2019 Salon Competition, and her drawing of Emily was a finalist in the Salon at the Triton Museum of Art and was exhibited from November 9, 2019, to January 26, 2020. Her portrait painting of Feathers received an honorable mention in “The Figure Contemporary” exhibit at the Santa Cruz Art League. Her portrait of Matt was selected and published in a full page in Juliette Aristides’ book “Lessons in Classical Painting,” and her drawing copy of Saint John the Evangelist by Guercino was published on the front page of Drawing Magazine in Fall 2015.
