The Buk Sing Kung Fu Academy has been teaching traditional Chinese Kung Fu in the Fremont/Newark area for over 35 years and is described as the “#1 Kung Fu School for 35+ years in the Fremont/Newark area.” The primary instructor is Sifu Shane Lacey (Lay Shun Lay), an 8th degree Buk Sing Choy Lay Fut master who is described as one of the most highly respected and sought after martial artists on the West Coast of America. He was one of the 10 grand champions of the Chinese weapons division at Ed Parker’s International Championships in Long Beach, the undefeated 4-star grand champion of the International Chinese Martial Arts Championship in San Francisco for four straight years, and the top national Broad Sword champion in America. He is well versed in Choy Lay Fut Buk Sing and also excels in Northern Shaolin, Chow Gar, Wing Chun, and Wu Shu.
The academy’s stated mission is for students to study Kung Fu, learn self-defense, build confidence, and practice integrity through the ancient Choy Lay Fut martial arts style, gaining skills and knowledge passed down from masters and ancestors over many generations through a straightforward and applicable teaching style. Students perform Lion Dance at Chinese New Year’s events. Parents and adult students describe the school as a great place for kids to learn Kung Fu, mention a family atmosphere and community, and note that children and adults look forward to classes, enjoy learning, and participate in Lion Dance performances at Chinese New Year’s events. Multiple testimonials from parents and adult students mention kids and adults attending for many months or years, advancing in skill, and continuing with the program over time.
