Soccer Teams is a program where kids and youth play soccer and receive coaching and mentoring. The soccer team is coached by Mr. Hassan Qaderi and includes over 50 Afghan kids and youths. The program focuses on soccer activities along with guidance from a dedicated coach.
Afghan Coalition has close to three decades of experience and states that its mission is to empower Afghan communities in the United States by providing essential services and support to help Afghan families thrive in their new home. The Soccer Teams program is described as creating a space for healthy entertainment, community building, and personal growth for Afghan refugee and immigrant children. It is also described as helping Afghan children and youth develop athletic skills, confidence, teamwork, and leadership abilities, and as a positive outlet that supports physical and mental well-being while keeping Afghan youth active, connected, and engaged in a supportive community. The program is further described as mentoring more than 50 Afghan youth, promoting teamwork, confidence, and healthy entertainment, and offering Afghan kids coaching and community while fostering growth through sports and mentorship. Afghan Coalition also lists connections to community resources and partner organizations, including the City of Fremont, 211.org Resources, The Council on American–Islamic Relations, IRC, Jewish Family and Children's Services, BRFN (Bay Area Resource for Newcomers), and Sparkpoint.
