Camps and Family Education Programs at Fresno Chaffee Zoo include educational camps at the Zoo that feature learning, themed crafts and activities, and regular Zoo visits. Families can take part in Behind-the-Scenes adventures such as Tiny Trunk Time, Tall Tails, Wild About Warthogs, Sloth Bear Necessities, Dragon Discovery, Fun With Flippers, and Gills & Thrills. Program options also include giraffe feeding at Twiga Terrace, the Butterfly Garden walk-through experience, the Zoorassic Park exhibit and Zoorassic Park birthdays, Stingray Bay where guests can touch or feed cownose and southern stingrays, and visits to the Valley Farm exhibit.

Fresno Chaffee Zoo states that its mission is to inspire people to care for animals, create connections, build community, and save wildlife. The Zoo has participated in the Red Wolf Species Survival Plan (SSP) for over 30 years and is a proud partner of the Association of Zoos and Aquariums (AZA) SAFE program for the North American Monarch, which focuses on increasing pesticide-free native milkweed and wildlife-friendly landscaping in cities and towns. In September 2014, the Zoo received the Association of Zoos and Aquariums Top Honor Exhibit Award for Sea Lion Cove. Through support of the Zoo, including the purchase of a laser engraved fruit crate side or slat, the organization states that it aims to help ensure a sustainable and positive impact on the communities of the Central Valley.
