About
Fairmont Summer Camp includes academic activities along with daily Spanish lessons. Campers explore and make discoveries in the school garden, care for Fairmont chickens and collect their eggs, and take part in the Fairmont Farmer's Market where they harvest and sell produce and eggs and donate the proceeds to the food bank.
• Ages: 2–7 years old
• Schedule: June 24th through July 31st
Fairmont Summer Camp takes place at a campus that was designed and constructed as a preschool campus specializing in early childhood programs, with a playground that includes one acre of grass, mature trees, a garden area of seasonal vegetables, and a chicken coop. The program is part of Fairmont Private School of Fresno, which was established in 1974 by Bill and Maxine Smith as an educationally focused preschool. Fairmont is an International Baccalaureate (IB) School and offers what it identifies as the only IB Preschool Program in the valley, designed specifically for preschool and kindergarten children. The program focuses on the development of the whole child, incorporates all subject areas, and includes daily Spanish lessons. It follows a mission to foster curiosity, knowledge, and critical thinking to ignite learning and to inspire a global vision in each member of the school community.
Students learn about local and global communities through the study of six themes throughout the year and participate in the Fairmont Farmer's Market, where they harvest and sell their produce and eggs and donate the proceeds to the food bank. The program includes a “Community Helpers” component that is designed to encourage students to explore responsibility, connection, and care in their neighborhood, with a summer focus on helpers who heal (doctors, nurses, and dentists), helpers who protect (police, firefighters, and lifeguards), and helpers who create (artists and chefs). Staff members are described as experienced and professional educators who are trained in providing a child-focused curriculum. The program states that students learn values, attitudes, and skills that guide them to respect and care for other people, the world, and themselves, and that they are lifelong learners well prepared for the next step in their educational journey.
