The School Program at Arboretum and Botanical Garden at Cal State Fullerton includes hands-on activities such as fruit harvesting, weeding, trimming, and watering plants in the nursery. Participants may also share the beauty and fun facts about the arboretum at a Discovery Station and take part in events and activities such as the Valencia Orange U-Pick, Plant Cup, Evening Stroll, and Garden Flea Market.

Friends of the Arboretum has helped raise support and awareness for the Arboretum for more than 50 years. The leadership team includes Director Joya Salas, Living Collections Curator Gregory J. Pongetti, Facility Rental & Sales Manager Tiffany Jordan, Membership and Annual Giving Coordinator Emilia Pereda, and Academic & Education Program Coordinator Edleen Suh. The Friends of the Arboretum 2023–24 Board of Directors includes President Linda Parton, Secretary Mary Dalessi, Treasurer Marsha Adams, and Directors John Carroll, Daniel Gallegos, Kathie Kingett, Chris Maule, Cindy Tooley, Bill Wallace, and Debbie Williamson. The mission of Arboretum and Botanical Garden at Cal State Fullerton is to support the academic mission of CSUF with a world class living and historical collection and to provide learning opportunities for every stage of life, extending its resources into the local community and around the globe to foster an appreciation for plant conservation, botanical research and horticulture.
In 2017, the Arboretum and Botanical Garden at Cal State Fullerton achieved ArbNet’s Level IV accreditation, becoming one of 3 arboreta in California and one of 28 arboreta in the world to achieve this highest level of accreditation, and this accreditation was renewed at Level IV in 2023. The Arboretum extends its resources into the local community and around the globe, and the support group Friends of the Arboretum promotes the Arboretum throughout the community and has helped raise support and awareness for more than 50 years. The Garden Flea Market event is created and managed by Cal State Fullerton Communications students and features student vendors and artists, music, food, and more.
The Arboretum offers an online plant store open to everyone, with plants available to order online anytime Monday–Sunday and pick up Friday–Sunday at the front kiosk during operating hours, and members receive a 10% discount on all sales in the online plant store. Veggiepalooza uses the online plant store with pre-orders available from April 4 through April 15 for members only and pick up Thursday–Saturday during Veggiepalooza sale hours. Volunteer opportunities include horticulture tasks and Discovery Station engagement, and the Engaging Environmental Experiences (E3) Internship is available for students passionate about the environment and being outdoors. The Sponsor a Tree program allows a tax-deductible gift to fund care for a specific tree for one year and is recognized by a personalized sign placed near the tree.
Arboretum Biomes information explains what a biome is, and an interactive map allows people to explore the Arboretum remotely. The living collection is home to many important plants, including rare, threatened and endangered species, specimens collected from the wild, and cultivars of historical significance, including a nationally recognized citrus collection. The nursery serves to propagate, conserve and safeguard collections and other threatened plants. Friends of the Arboretum host evening strolls in the garden and appreciation luncheons for volunteers and support scholarships for CSUF students. Visitors are instructed to adhere to hourly parking signage enforced by CSUF Parking and Transportation Services.
