Painted Star Equestrian offers lessons in western riding that include barrel racing, gymkhana, trail riding, and cattle sorting. Riders also take part in beach rides and can compete in local barrel races, gymkhanas, and rodeos.
• Ages: 6–18 years old
• Schedule: Lessons offered Monday–Friday during barn hours by appointment, with opening hours from 9:00 am to 7:30 pm
Founder and Head Instructor Shannen B. has over 25 years of riding experience and more than 15 years as an instructor, is a member of the California Gymkhana Association, actively competes in rodeos, jackpots, and gymkhanas, and holds a business degree from Cal Poly Pomona. The leadership team includes Founder and Head Instructor Shannen B., along with Lead Instructors Kalysta and Brittany. The program’s mission is to build confident, skilled, and well-rounded equestrians in a safe, supportive, and encouraging environment.
Painted Star Equestrian uses well-trained, hand-selected lesson horses for riders of all experience levels and emphasizes safe practices with these horses. Horses in the program receive regular vet checkups, farrier visits, chiropractic care, MagnaWave, red light, and BEMER therapy, and their nutrition is professionally managed. The program focuses on both rider development and the thoughtful care and respect of the horses. Facilities include a covered arena, an outdoor arena, round pens, and a covered lesson barn.
Painted Star Equestrian is a proud member of the California Gymkhana Association and is an Ocean Grove Vendor. Riders from the program compete in local barrel races, gymkhanas, and top-tier events such as Gilroy Junior Rodeo and Salinas Jr. Rodeo, and riders have earned countless buckles. The program also offers a competition team that combines high-level competition with strong team camaraderie, along with fun team events like cattle sorting and beach rides.
