Painted Star Equestrian offers western riding lessons that include barrel racing, gymkhana, trail riding, cattle sorting, and beach rides. Riders also have opportunities to participate in local barrel races, gymkhanas, and rodeos through the program’s Competition Team and Rodeo Riding Academy.

• Schedule: Lessons offered Monday–Friday, with barn hours by appointment only from 9:00 am–7:30 pm
Painted Star Equestrian has a covered arena, an outdoor arena, round pens, and a covered lesson barn. The program uses well-trained, hand-selected lesson horses that are specially trained for the program and suited for riders of all experience levels. Horses receive regular vet checkups, farrier visits, chiropractic care, MagnaWave, red light, and BEMER therapy, along with professionally managed equine nutrition and top-tier horse care. Lessons are tailored to individual goals and range from fundamentals to advanced levels, with multiple class times and both private and group lesson options. The program also offers fun team events such as cattle sorting and beach rides, and riders have earned countless buckles through shows and competitions. A 2026 Summer Camp is offered.
Founder and Head Instructor Shannen B. has over 25 years of riding experience and more than 15 years as an instructor, is a member of the California Gymkhana Association, actively competes in rodeos, jackpots, and gymkhanas, and holds a business degree from Cal Poly Pomona. Lead instructors include Shannen B., Kalysta, and Brittany. Painted Star Equestrian states that its mission is to build confident, skilled, and well-rounded equestrians in a safe, supportive, and encouraging environment. The program is a proud member of the California Gymkhana Association and participates in local barrel races, gymkhanas, and rodeos such as Gilroy Junior Rodeo and Salinas Jr. Rodeo.
