About
Rainforest Falls Day Camp includes daily lessons, crafts, games, afternoon activities, and snacks, along with station rotations that feature powerful Bible stories and learning daily Scripture. Campers take part in Sing and Play Tune Lagoon and Canopy Closing, which both include singing, dancing, and sharing what was learned, as well as crazy fun games that focus on discovery and creativity. The program also offers contemporary worship and praise, prayer, fellowship, and a weekly message from one of the pastors.
• Ages: 3–11 years old
• Schedule: Monday, July 20 – Friday, July 24, with a half-day option from 9:00am–12:00pm and a full-day option from 9:00am–4:00pm
• Price: $250 per child for 9:00am–4:00pm (daily lessons, crafts, games, and afternoon activities/field trips); $150 per child for 9:00am–12:00pm (daily lessons, crafts, and games)
The field trip option includes daily fun-filled field trips after the camp program, such as Beach Day at Francis Beach with a coned-off boundary where no camper goes near the ocean water at any time, Movie Day in the main sanctuary with popcorn provided, and Bouncy House Day with bounce houses, a jumpy slide, and an obstacle course as the field trip finale. Families are welcome to join the final day of fun at 2:00pm on Bouncy House Day, and preschoolers and campers who did not register for field trips are invited to join this jumpy family finale. If a camper is joining field trips, families are asked to send a packed lunch and full water bottle for lunch before leaving on field trips, and snacks and water are provided during the jumping and running time on Bouncy House Day.
The preschool day camp program is described as thoughtfully designed to match the needs of preschoolers and help them thrive in a fun, safe, and nurturing environment, and preschool campers are asked to be 3 years old by the start of camp, have previous preschool experience, be potty trained, and attend the half-day preschool program. Scholarships are available so cost is not the reason a student cannot attend camps or events, and a scholarship request form is used to track how much scholarship money is requested for each event.
Rainforest Falls Day Camp is part of the children’s and youth camp offerings at Mariners Church, which states that camps are very important to its work with children and youth and that it believes camps can help students grow deeper in faith, establish a solid community while they grow in their faith, and serve as a way for students to get connected to the church. Mariners Church describes itself as a community of believers in the Lord Jesus Christ that seeks to authentically love God and love people, and is committed to helping everyone connect with God, grow with others, and serve the world. The church also states that it is a church of coastsiders intentionally reaching the unchurched on the coast with the life-giving message of Jesus Christ and has established a team to consider its role in reaching second-generation English-speaking Latinos.
The leadership team connected to the broader church includes Paul Richardson, who was called to lead the church in April 1988, his wife Lisa Richardson, Pastor Len Banks as Pastor of Connections, Kaitlin Gehret who leads the Surf’s Up KidMin, Ivette Moctezuma as part-time Director of Community Outreach, and Curt Vanderstelt as Director of Youth Ministries. The church history includes small Bible study groups beginning in 1986, calling themselves Mariners Community Church, and later developments such as adding multiple services, leasing and remodeling spaces for worship and children’s ministry, launching the “Making Ourselves Ready” campaign in 2010, and holding the first worship service at the Stone Pine property in November 2013. Weekly Sunday services are described as including contemporary worship and praise, prayer, fellowship, and a weekly message from one of the pastors.
