Solis Martial Arts offers martial arts lessons, including kids martial arts, beginners martial arts classes, Little Ninjas martial arts classes, and teens and adult martial arts classes. Solis Martial Arts has provided martial arts in the San Francisco East Bay for over 40 years and has served the East Bay community for over 40 years. The leadership team includes Professor Eddie Solis as Master Instructor and founding instructor of Solis Martial Arts, Sifu James as Head Instructor, and Carla de Alba as Owner and Instructor. Owner and Instructor Carla de Alba began her training in 2023, started as a parent and student, and is mentored by Professor Eddie Solis, and she has child development training. The program describes its goal as having students become their best selves, with a focus on progress, not perfection, being family-oriented, building a positive environment for students to build confidence, and building others up through positivity and self-belief.
Professor Eddie Solis began his martial arts journey in 1973 training in KAJUKENBO, earned his Black Belt in 1976, and opened his first studio in San Pablo, CA in 1982. He holds a 9th-degree Black Belt, was named California Middleweight Competitor of the Year in 1981, 1982, 1983, and 1988, and was ranked 3rd in the Western Region of the U.S. for fighting, and he continues to train in Jiujitsu, Filipino Martial Arts, and Muay Thai Kickboxing. In 2024, founder 9th Degree Professor Eddie Solis was ready to take a step back as owner. Sifu/Instructor James is a 4th Degree Black Belt who began his martial arts training at age 5 at the original home of Solis Martial Arts in San Pablo, CA, earned his black belt in 2001, and is a 7-time North American Sport Karate Association (NASKA) world champion, with 6 titles in creative extreme forms and one in sparring. He has traveled to Central America, Asia, and Europe as a competitor and as an invited guest instructor for professional demonstrations, seminars, and private lessons, was featured at age 11 in a GAP kids Super Power Denim commercial that aired nationally, appeared on the Good Morning America Show, and was featured on ESPN2 competing at the US Open ISKA Sport Karate World Championship as a member of PRORANKS World Renowned Elite Team.
Solis Martial Arts states that its legacy and lineage start with founder 9th Degree Professor Eddie Solis and that its legacy has reached generations in the community. The program welcomes students from Rodeo, Pinole, San Pablo, El Sobrante, Crockett, Vallejo, El Cerrito, Walnut Creek, and surrounding areas, and it offers family check-ins beyond just on-the-mat services.
