DanceLova Dance Academy offers a range of dance classes including Ballet, Jazz, Contemporary Lyrical, Hip Hop, Chinese Dance, World Dance, Acro Dance, and adult dance classes. Specific class levels include Pre-Dance, Pre-Ballet, Ballet I–IV, Character Dance, Jazz I–IV with related Turns & Leaps classes, Pre-Hip Hop and Hip Hop I–IV, Contemporary Lyrical I–II, Chinese Dance I–IV, and several adult classes such as Adult Ballet Beginner, Adult Ballet Intermediate, Adult Hip Hop, and Adult Chinese Dance. The program also offers LIVE distance learning classes and summer camps.
• Ages: 2–18 years old
• Schedule: Classes are offered Monday–Friday between 10am and 9pm, and Saturday–Sunday between 9am and 7pm, with specific class options throughout the week such as Pre-Dance on Monday afternoons and Saturday mornings, Pre-Ballet on Monday late afternoons and Thursday evenings, multiple Ballet I and II time slots across the week and weekend, Ballet III on Monday and Friday late afternoons, Character Dance on Monday evenings and Thursday mornings, Jazz I–IV and related Turns & Leaps classes on weekdays and weekends, Pre-Hip Hop and Hip Hop I–IV on Tuesday and Sunday, Contemporary Lyrical I on Wednesday afternoons and II on Saturday afternoons, and adult ballet and hip hop classes on Friday, Saturday, and Sunday.
Ivy Chen is the Artistic Director at DanceLova Dance Academy and is a former instructor and choreographer at Joffrey Ballet School. She began her dance training at age 6 in Taiwan in Russian Vaganova Ballet, Modern dance, and cultural Chinese dance, attended National Taiwan University of Arts, and was selected as one of two dance representatives for Taiwan’s national dance auditions for three consecutive years during university. After graduating in 2003, she performed ballet and contemporary dance for Rejoyce Contemporary Ballet Company and cultural dance for many dance companies around the world, and she has more than eighteen collective years of experience educating students of all age groups in Asia and the United States, including at Joffrey Ballet School. Ivy founded DanceLova Dance Academy in Irvine in 2012, and over 8,000 Orange County families have chosen DanceLova since 2017.
Her stated goal is to guide the DanceLova instructors to collectively provide profound dance education that helps new generations of dancers follow their dreams. Under Ivy’s artistic direction, her dance students have won awards at national competitions at the Elite level. DanceLova Dance Academy is listed as a related resource with the City of Irvine After School Activities and Dance Magazine, and numerous graduating high school seniors from Ivy’s classes have been admitted into universities of their choice by pursuing dance as a major or minor, while others have entered Ivy League schools using dance as a strong extracurricular.
