FreshStart Music Studio offers piano lessons, voice lessons, voice ensembles, violin lessons, cello lessons, guitar lessons, ukulele lessons, toddler music classes, musicianship classes, and Performance Training Classes. The studio also offers an Adult Music Program, Piano Program, Strings Program, Voice Program, Toddler Music Program, and a Piano Dojo Program, which is an in-studio, guided, group practice program where kids practice together and learn about effective practice strategies. FreshStart Piano Studio uses only the highest model upright pianos in its lesson rooms and states that spinets or small uprights are not used in the school.

FreshStart Music Studio states that it guides students to thrive through music, mentorship, and community, and describes itself as a sanctuary for students and teachers where mentorship blooms and great teaching is cultivated and celebrated. Programs are created from the ground up or improved to work together so that students can move from toddler music class to group piano to private lessons and musicianship classes without confusion. Both owners of FreshStart studied pedagogy, which is the study of how to teach. Teachers have a music degree, are background checked, and are selected after multi-step interviews that evaluate personality, teaching skill and potential, expertise on their instrument, and professionalism. Teachers participate in monthly discussions and individual coaching, and must pass what the studio calls the “NOT A JERK” test and the “WOULD I WANT MY OWN KIDS TO SPEND WEEKLY ONE-ON-ONE TIME WITH THEM” test. The leadership team includes founders Kevin and Clare Kao and Mr. Michael, who is the School Manager.
FreshStart Music Studio reports that it teaches happy students in Woodbury, Cypress Village, Stonegate, Portola Springs, Eastwood, Quail Hill, Orchard Hill, and other villages of Irvine. One parent, Sandy Frankfort from Ladera Ranch, describes Kevin as a piano teacher and role model for her son Pierce and notes his energy, spirit, kindness, patience, and method, as well as an environment she calls friendly and inspiring.
