About

Effortless Tennis is a tennis program that focuses on the sport of tennis. The program uses a cooperative, non-competitive behavior model in which players work with each other so that each can benefit and reach their potential. Effortless Tennis is described as a comprehensive, integrated system of learning that emphasizes physical, mental, and emotional aspects of playing tennis.

Brent Zeller is the founder and developer of Effortless Tennis. The program has been developed from over sixty years of involvement in sports, fifty-six years of playing tennis, and fifty years of teaching tennis. Brent Zeller completed Dennis Van der Meer’s TennisUniversity teaching program in 1975, joined the United States Professional Tennis Association in 1975, and remains a member. Effortless Tennis classes are offered through College of Marin Community Education. The program’s mission states that it removes competition from the learning process until players can demonstrate competence in physical, mental, and emotional fundamentals, and that its cooperative approach reflects an overall worldview, not just a tennis philosophy. One testimonial describes progress in tennis skills and “unexpected benefits in other areas of life,” including a shift toward seeing collaboration and shared effort as strengths and reflecting on the question “Where is your joy?”. Another testimonial describes a participant returning to tennis after many years away, taking Effortless Tennis classes and private lessons for almost two years, and describing Brent’s teaching and guidance, the focus on playing with less physical and emotional effort, and the removal of competition from the program. A third testimonial describes Effortless Tennis as “Physical & Psychological Behavior Therapy,” praises Brent Zeller as a tennis coach and teacher, and notes that each class feels like a learning experience that connects with many areas of the participant’s life.
