About
Hayward La Honda Music Camp offers jazz, orchestras, and wind ensembles, along with rehearsal, performance, study, recreation, and general camp life. The camp uses a concentrated program of these activities in the surroundings of YMCA Camp Jones Gulch.

Hayward La Honda Music Camp is a non-profit organization whose mission is to inspire young musicians to achieve their best musically, to enjoy a great social and recreational experience, and take-home memories that will last a lifetime. The camp has been founded and run by Bay Area music teachers since 1962, with the first meeting held in Yosemite. It is devoted to the development of musicianship for students in grades 6–12 (aged 11–19) and is organized to challenge students in a variety of creative pursuits. The camp has a strong tradition of passionately supporting musicianship for all students regardless of financial need, supported by the generosity of individuals and businesses.
Hayward La Honda Music Camp has been described as having a special kind of magic that connects campers, counselors, and teachers, and has been “making musical memories for generations.” For over six decades, it has been a place where young musicians grow, connect, and create unforgettable memories, and it has helped spawn countless musical lives. Many alumni have gone on to stellar professional music careers, and many have become music educators. Some staff members have been friends since they were campers over 50 years ago.
The camp’s leadership history includes David Martin and Ed Krenz, who organized the first meeting of Hayward La Honda Music Camp, and Milt Bowerman and Marvin Bowerman, who were instrumental in keeping the camp going for over 50 years.
