About
Old Town Artisan Studios Classes & Workshops offers hands-on art activities such as pottery and creating items out of clay. The program also includes workshops where students can make holiday cards, try nuno-felting, create ceramic pumpkins, and do ghoulish gourd-carving. Some participants work on specific clay projects like a totem pole.
• Ages: 3–18 years old
• Schedule: Studio hours Monday–Saturday, 10:00 am–5:00 pm
• Price: Donations from $10 to $1,000 and more are mentioned
Old Town Artisan Studios offers classes, private instruction, and independent studio use for people of all ages and abilities. Workshops in a variety of mediums run throughout the week and bring unique fun for all ages. The Local Artisans Retail Shop is open to the public during normal Old Town Artisan Studios business hours, Monday through Saturday from 10:00 am to 5:00 pm. Events at the studio include live concerts, holiday celebrations, studio tours, and artist lectures.
Old Town Artisan Studios is committed to providing art experiences for all people regardless of age, ability, or financial condition, and states that it believes art is healing and has an everlasting impact on each person and the world around them. The leadership team includes Roccie Hill (Executive Director), Angel Cunningham (Director of Education), Kennan Vorwaller (Director of Administration), Colby Cramer (Director of Ceramics), Peggy Schulz (Director of Development), Andy Taylor (Director of Community Engagement), Wendy Fink (Temporary Director of Marketing), Angel Prudencio (Senior Manager of Ceramics), Kim Krebs (Administration), and founder Victory Grund.
Community involvement includes delivering art in-studio and throughout the Coachella Valley to those who cannot come to the studio. Outreach Programs bring art experiences to children and adults with special needs, seniors, veterans, and underserved populations. After-school instruction and community partnerships respond to schools reducing their art offerings. The Mobile Mission delivers art directly through collaborations with schools, senior centers, and local nonprofits, and Art To-Go kits are donated to local families in need. Support from cities, foundations, corporations, and individual donors helps provide over 29,000 art experiences a year.
One participant in the Pottery Friends group, Paul Maloney, reports coming to the studio for 10 years, enjoying creating items out of clay, especially the totem pole, and meeting special friends during class. Founder Victory Grund has publicly thanked supporters, stating that every donation from $10 to $1,000 and more goes directly back to the community and into the hands of those who need it most, and expressing gratitude for the confidence shown in the studio’s ability to deliver art experiences.
