The Studio Violin is a full service Suzuki Violin School run by Chloe Ross, who is described as meticulous and constantly keeping herself trained with the Suzuki methods. The studio provides expert violin instruction to children ages 3–18 years old through the Suzuki Method and is comprised of 50+ families of various backgrounds and musical experience. Group classes are a foundational pillar of the Suzuki Method in the studio, are split into age and playing levels, and attendance at assigned group classes is required of all studio violinists, including a Young Artist Program group class for students at Book 5+.
The studio describes itself as a close knit group of families speaking the common language of music and highlights JOY. COMMUNITY. EXCELLENCE. as important themes. The Studio Violin is active in the local Suzuki Association of Northern California chapter, attends regional Suzuki events every year, and studio violinists often attend summer Suzuki Institutes throughout the country. Concerts are always free to the public, and families are asked to leave dogs at home for concerts.
The Studio Violin follows strict guidelines from the CDC and Contra Costa County Public Health, including masks worn by all parties until it is safe to do so, hand sanitizing before and after lessons, and cleaning of surfaces and any instruments needed for instruction. The studio restroom is closed during the pandemic except for emergencies, and families are asked to use the restroom before coming to lessons. Lessons may be moved outdoors or to online instruction if any party is unwell or has tested positive for COVID-19.
The Studio Violin is currently full and accepting students onto a waiting list. TSV training is described as specific and requiring full investment and participation in the learning process, and transfer students are asked to schedule an audition and present music that reflects their current level. One parent testimonial states that Ms. Chloe delivers very high caliber violin lessons, nurtures passion in kids, and instills patience and the importance of continuous practice, and the studio shares the quote, “Practice only on the days you eat.”
