• Schedule: Staff check messages Monday through Friday from 9 am to 5 pm.
Laguna Canyon Foundation’s education programs follow Next Generation Science Standards and offer students both a wilderness experience and real-life lessons to complement classroom studies. The education program reaches out to Title 1 schools where a high percentage of the students are from low-income families and brings second through fifth grade students from its Title 1 partner schools for a day on the trails each school year. The programs promote diversity, inclusion, and representation in the outdoors and are conducted in a region designated as a biodiversity hotspot, comparable to the Amazon Rainforest and the Great Barrier Reef.
Laguna Canyon Foundation is dedicated to the conservation and ongoing protection of the South Coast Wilderness and envisions a thriving coastal ecosystem that serves as a source of inspiration, connection, and refuge for all. Laguna Canyon Foundation has been preserving the canyon since 1989 and began transitioning its mission from land acquisition to conservation and education in 2007. Its trail program launched in 2014, and in 2015 it began partnering with the City of Laguna Beach on fuel modification work. In 2024, Laguna Canyon Foundation celebrated 10 years of maintaining and improving 26 miles of singletrack trail in Aliso and Wood Canyons Wilderness Park and Laguna Coast Wilderness Park, and its trail program mission is to bring all South Coast Wilderness trail users together to find common ground, learn about trail building and maintenance, develop stewardship, and improve trails.
Field educator Chrisha Favors has a Bachelor’s in Education and taught music lessons for ten years prior to teaching environmental science. Through its volunteer program, Laguna Canyon Foundation connects over 130 dedicated individuals with OC Parks and partners with OC Parks, the City of Laguna Beach, like-minded organizations, and dedicated volunteers to conserve and preserve the land. Testimonials from educators and volunteers describe the program’s focus on reaching Title 1 schools, supporting biodiversity in nature, promoting diversity in nature through education programs, and giving many children their first time in the wilderness.
