Optimus Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu Academy offers training in Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu, kickboxing, mixed martial arts (MMA), and Judo. The academy provides world-class martial arts training to kids ages 4 and up, as well as adult learners, with an organized curriculum led by professional Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu instructors and black belt instruction. The program includes popular kids' programs such as the Winning Attitude Kids Program and features an Exclusive Optimus Character Development Program for kids.

Optimus Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu Academy opened in 2011 and has been serving the communities of Laguna Beach, Dana Point, Laguna Niguel, and Aliso Viejo since 2011. The academy is described as one of the largest martial art schools in Orange County and as Orange County’s #1 choice for adult and kids’ Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu and Orange County’s #1 source for BJJ. The training center is described as state-of-the-art and is sanitized daily, and students can participate in competitions and learn from world-famous guest instructors as part of the Optimus Team.
The leadership team includes Professor Grant Collins (Owner and Operator, Fourth Degree Black Belt in Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu), Professor Zach Wolivar (jiu-jitsu black belt instructor), Professor Adrian Cisneros (Brazilian jiu-jitsu black belt instructor who leads Friday evening Judo-focused sessions), Professor Caleb (Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu black belt instructor), Coach Forrest Chang (lead instructor for the MMA program), and Coach Eric Wackeen (primary instructor for the Winning Attitude Kids Program). Professor Grant Collins has 33 years of martial arts training, holds a Fourth Degree Black Belt in Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu under Mauricio “Tinguinha” Mariano, a Second Degree Black Belt in Tae Kwon Do, and a First Degree Black Belt in Hapkido, and has more than 20 years of teaching experience. His competitive record includes 20 Tae Kwon Do titles at the age of 24, an invite to the US Olympic Training Center, and over 30 Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu titles including 2 Pan American Bronze, 1 Pan American Silver, 2 IBJJF Nationals Gold, and 2 SJJIF World Championships Gold, and he is a 2x National Champion Black Belt.
Professor Zach Wolivar is a jiu-jitsu black belt, a seasoned competitor, the fastest student to earn a black belt at Optimus Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu, a registered nurse, certified in CPR and First Aid, and is described as a world-class professional instructor. Professor Adrian Cisneros is a professional engineer with over 13 years of martial arts experience and a black belt in Brazilian jiu-jitsu. Professor Caleb is a former Marine, an elite security professional, a certified Krav Maga instructor, a certified Gracie Survival Tactics (GST) instructor, a USPSA competitive pistol shooter, and earned his Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu black belt from Professor Collins in 2024. Coach Forrest Chang has 47 years of experience, holds black belts in Tae Kwon Do and Kung Fu, and a brown belt in Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu. Coach Eric Wackeen has a high school wrestling background, holds a black belt in Taekwondo and a purple belt in Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu, and is pursuing a Bachelor’s degree in sociology at Cal State Long Beach.
The mission of Optimus Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu Academy states that, alongside Professor Collins, the team of highly qualified instructors is committed to helping students become stronger, both physically and mentally, through martial arts. The academy highlights increased confidence and discipline, new strength and fitness, and the chance to develop proven self-defense skills in Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu.
