Dave Fromer Soccer has been providing soccer programs in the Bay Area since 1974. Dave Fromer has been a central figure in the popularization of soccer among the youth of Marin over more than thirty-five years and co-founded the Mill Valley Soccer Club in 1976. The program also runs Spring and Fall 5 v 5 programs in partnership with the Mill Valley Recreation Department, and Dave Fromer co-founded the MVSC Girls’ Soccer League and helped start the Marin Women’s Soccer League.
The leadership team includes founder Dave Fromer, who is a former collegiate All-American and national champion; Jacki Fromer, who has participated in behind-the-scenes management of Marin Soccer Programs and previously worked 13 years for a community non-profit organization; Executive Director Rachel Usher; general manager Lewis Usher; Reed Fromer, who coordinates several facets of the Winter Indoor Soccer League; Assistant Manager Maya Paul; and staff member Judy Arlen, who has extensive experience in customer service. Coaching and staff credentials include Dave Fromer’s experience as co-captain of the first youth team from the Western United States to win a national championship, 15 years coaching boys’ and girls’ teams at Tamalpais High School, and many youth teams through the Mill Valley Soccer Club. Rachel Usher has a credential in Early Childhood Education and extensive coaching experience with youth soccer teams and after-school sports classes. Lewis Usher has coached and trained teams and individuals, taught after-school soccer and basketball, coordinated and coached a large 4- and 5-year-old league, and hosted sports-themed birthday parties. Reed Fromer has refereed youth soccer for over 28 years and is also a mathematics teacher, youth chorus instructor, band leader, and studio producer. Maya Paul has experience in office management and administration, a background in health and nutrition, and has taught classes for youth and adults.
The program’s mission statement describes offering coaching staff in the Bay Area who provide dynamic programs emphasizing skill development and fun, with coaches who are described as talented, experienced, and inspiring, making soccer fun while giving clear instruction and expert advice, and building self-esteem through a nurturing, positive, and supportive environment, with a focus on spreading joy and building unity by sharing a passion for soccer.
Parent testimonials describe long-term participation with multiple children, noting welcoming, joyous, and passionate environments at practices and games, and mention that staff have been accommodating, flexible, and supportive of players. Other parents report that their children have played and coached with the program for years, that their children now play on top competitive club teams and high school teams, and that they highly recommend the programs. Additional comments mention “pro coaching in a fun atmosphere,” easy team formation with friends and classmates, and “pro coach referees” on weekend games. One parent with five children over a 12-year span reports that all of them enjoyed camp, including a child who did not like sports, and that one child went on to play college soccer while another did not play again but still talks about camp and the coaches. Another parent notes that the spirit of the games and leadership with coaches and referees on the field in a spring league were “superb” and that they appreciated the field setup and looked forward to returning. A parent of a U7 boy playing up in a U8 division states that this has been the best soccer experience he has had so far.
