Championship Performance Advantage began as an idea in 2017, became a physical location in March 2020, and held its grand opening on June 27, 2020. The facility was started by Chris P Austin, Lynn Flanagan, and Wendy “JJ” Jones, and is owned by Chris P Austin and Lynn Flanagan. The mission of Championship Performance Advantage is described as the gold standard of training in Southern California and is for anyone looking to “Become Your Best.”
Chris P Austin is a public speaker and entrepreneur whose primary focuses are business, relationships, and sports, and he runs the CPA Facility. He worked through high school, was cut from the men’s volleyball tryout at the University of Hawaii in his freshman season, then attended Long Beach City College for a year and a half to play indoor volleyball and earn a Business Degree. He transferred to UC Irvine unrecruited, started on back-to-back NCAA Division I Championship teams, and earned a second degree in Public Health. After college he wrote two books (“The Way: GRV” and “Become Your Best”), began three national businesses, played over a decade of professional volleyball, launched a public speaking career, and offers his books “Become Your Best: Mastering Self Confidence” and “The Way: A Hawaiian Story of GRV” through the facility.
Coach Lynn played basketball at Loyola Marymount University from 1987–1991 and has over 20 years of Division I coaching experience at Loyola Marymount University. She was instrumental in the development of 40 All-Conference nominees, including Players of the Year and Defensive Players of the Year, and has owned and operated South Bay Breakers, a youth basketball club, since 2012. In high school coaching, she achieved a 2018 California State Championship and the 2014 CIF Championship. She was an All-WCC honoree, scored over 1,400 points, was the first women’s basketball player to be inducted into the LMU Hall of Fame, set 18 school records upon completion of her career, helped lead LMU to postseason appearances in the WNIT and NCAA tournament, helped guide LMU to a WCC Championship, and served 16 years as LMU’s Recruiting Coordinator.
The Championship Performance Advantage facility includes court space with high-level hardwood flooring and a clean space for court-based training. It also includes a Performance Room used for private workouts, group workouts, and use of free weights, strength, and cardio equipment, and a Performance Alley with turf for strength training with bars and Olympic lifts. A Lobby and Meeting Room can be cleared and booked out for meetings, and a Mentality Office is used for mentality training, video analysis, team meetings, sports recruiting, nutrition consultations, private therapy-of-the-body sessions, and related services. There is also green turf in front of an open air garage that is used as another turf option, and the facility offers merchandise such as shirts, sweatshirts, long-sleeves, tank-tops, hoodies, and more, and can be rented for commercials, events, or parties.
Parent testimonials describe individual experiences with the program. One parent states that “CPA Facility has completely changed the game for my daughter. She went from an athlete searching for direction to a college recruited player.” Another parent shares that “My son has become one of the best liberos in the country and has the opportunity to play with the USA program. Thank you CPA Facility.” A third parent says, “CPA is the biggest reason for my girls' success. Without the technique, mentality and coaching that they have received, they wouldn't be anywhere close to where they are.” Another testimonial states, “CPA created a plan and said that my son, Christian, could make it Division 1 if we followed it. I'm proud to say that was exactly true, and he made it!”
