Championship Performance Advantage began as an idea in 2017, became a physical location in March 2020, and held its grand opening on June 27, 2020. The mission of the CPA Facility is stated as being for anyone looking to “Become Your Best.” The leadership team includes owners Chris P Austin and Lynn Flanagan, with Wendy “JJ” Jones as a partner in founding the facility location.
Chris P Austin is a public speaker and entrepreneur whose primary focuses are business, relationships, and sports, and he runs the CPA Facility. He earned a Business Degree from Long Beach City College and a second degree in Public Health from UC Irvine, achieved back-to-back NCAA Division I Championships as a starter, has written two books (“The Way: GRV” and “Become Your Best”), begun three national businesses, played over a decade of professional volleyball, and launched a public speaking career. Coach Lynn played at Loyola Marymount University from 1987–1991, has more than 20 years of Division I coaching experience at Loyola Marymount University, and served 16 years as LMU’s Recruiting Coordinator. She was instrumental in the development of 40 All-Conference nominees including Players of the Year and Defensive Players of the Year, has owned and operated South Bay Breakers (a youth basketball club) since 2012, achieved a 2018 California State Championship and the 2014 CIF Championship as a high school coach, was an All WCC honoree, scored over 1,400 points, was the first women’s basketball player to be inducted into the LMU Hall of Fame, set 18 school records upon completion of her career, and helped lead LMU to postseason appearances in the WNIT and NCAA tournament and to a WCC Championship. Lynn Flanagan was the first women’s basketball player to be inducted into the Loyola Marymount University Hall of Fame, and Chris P Austin achieved back-to-back NCAA Division I Championships as a starter.
The facility includes court space with high level hardwood flooring, a performance room with free weights plus strength and cardio equipment, and a performance alley with turf for strength training with bars and Olympic lifts. It also has a lobby and meeting room that can be cleared and booked out for meetings, a mentality office used for mentality training, video analysis, team meetings, sports recruiting, nutrition consultations, and private therapy-of-the-body sessions, and green turf utilized out front of an open air garage. The program also offers merchandise such as shirts, sweatshirts, long-sleeves, tank-tops, hoodies and more, along with the books “Become Your Best: Mastering Self Confidence” and “The Way: A Hawaiian Story of GRV.” Championship Performance Advantage has been described as “the gold standard of training in Southern California.”
Parent testimonials about the CPA Facility include statements that a daughter “went from an athlete searching for direction to a college recruited player,” that a son “has become one of the best liberos in the country and has the opportunity to play with the USA program,” and that CPA is “the biggest reason” for three girls’ success according to their dad. Another parent reports that CPA created a plan for his son Christian to make it to Division I “if we followed it,” and he states that “he made it” as a USC volleyball player.
