Elite Self-Defense Academy describes itself as the community leader in martial arts for children, men, and women, and as a place where the community gets together with other like minded people to get fit and learn martial arts. Its mission states that it teaches cutting edge classes in Self-Defense, with the goal of surviving an attack rather than staying to fight with attackers, and that beyond the physical aspects of martial arts training there is a mental side that brings about discipline, responsibility, and dedication. The mission also states that through its life skills, students develop a positive mental attitude and high goal setting to become successful in life.
The academy is led by Sensei John Pfund, who holds the rank of Godan 5th (5th degree black belt) and has 40 years of experience. He entered the junior program of Amador Judo and Jujitsu school in January of 1978 and received Shodan (first degree black belt) on April 24, 1984. Sensei Pfund has held numerous tournament titles, including the AAU National championship, and has studied and competed in MMA, Brazilian Jiujitsu, Tae Kwon Do, Shotolan Karate, Wrestling, and Kodokan Judo. He is certified in teaching impact weapons, defensive tactics, and Alaskan Split Second Survival.
