Children’s Theatre of Long Beach After School Theatre Programs involve students in drama, dance, music, and art. Each program includes the creation of a school-based musical that brings these activities together. Programs are available for any Elementary or Middle School.

The Children’s Theatre of Long Beach is dedicated to creating theatre experiences that educate, challenge, and inspire young people and their communities, with a focus on empowering them to become voices for positive change. Teaching techniques in the after-school theatre programs are rooted in the principles of social-emotional learning, and the organization states a commitment to equity, diversity, inclusion, and representation. The organization states that it works to make theatre accessible to families from every socio-economic and cultural background.
A decade ago, in 2013, Children’s Theatre of Long Beach (CTLB) began its work with young people. CTLB describes itself as an incorporated California non-profit organization and a vital artistic resource for Long Beach schools, building collaborative partnerships within the community. CTLB describes its after-school theatre programs as creative, age-appropriate programming that is tailor-made for each school’s specific needs and preferred design for its theatre arts program.
Sean McMullen serves as President/CEO and is a teacher at the Orange County School of the Arts (OCSA) and a graduate of California Institute of the Arts (CAL ARTS) with a Master of Fine Arts in Theatre. Sean McMullen is also described as a winner of the Princess Grace Foundation’s Excellence in Theatre Award and Long Beach Hero 2014. The leadership team includes SEAN McMULLEN (President/CEO), DAVID HILLINGER (Chair), REBECCA McMULLEN (Vice-Chair), ANNE GUNDRY (Secretary), BRIAN MORGAN (Treasurer), COLIN THOMAS (Member), HANNAH McMULLEN (Member), KELLY GEORGE (Member), JAQUIE CHANG (Member), ERIKA CHRISTENSEN (Member), and MERY TAYLOR (Member).
