Long Beach Day Nursery was founded in 1912 and describes itself as one of California's most trusted, longest-operating programs with a century of proven excellence. The program states that it has remained virtually unchanged for more than a century and that it is built on a foundation of respect, fairness, and community. It proudly holds NAEYC Accreditation and notes that it was the first licensed child care program in Long Beach, one of the first licensed child care programs in California, and the first to meet the standards required for accreditation by the National Association for the Education of Young Children (NAEYC).

The mission of Long Beach Day Nursery is to provide high quality early care and education for young children of working parents. The program describes a holistic approach that includes early learning and development, nutrition, mental and physical health support, and family partnership and support. It offers quality environments, including an outdoor area with lots of room to run and play, and an inclusive setting where children interact with peers of different ages and abilities. The structure allows older students to practice emotional skills and younger ones to gain social and intellectual skills through observation and play, and it states that this equips children with confidence and collaborative skills for ongoing education.

Long Beach Day Nursery reports that its history is deeply rooted in the community and that it is an iconic Long Beach institution. It is dedicated to upholding the values of diversity, equity, inclusion, and belonging (DEIB) and is committed to ensuring that everyone has the opportunity to thrive in a supportive and inclusive environment. The program serves the community as the need for quality early care and education grows and is actively recruiting staff to help fulfill its mission. It also notes strong, open connections with parents through clear daily updates and describes itself as proactive with developmental support and dedicated to the belief that a good start in the formative years provides a lasting foundation for success.
