About
Tritone Music Academy offers ukulele and guitar instruction through after school group lessons, one-on-one lessons, and online lessons. Students can join the Project Rock Band program, which includes rock band coaching, band performances with a full band, and the annual Jingle Jam holiday show and year end Spring Epic performances. The program also offers a summer camp and after-school guitar lessons, including a Project Rock Band summer and year-round camp.
• Ages: 8–18 years old
• Schedule: PRB summer camp is a week-long, full day session in a small group setting.
Founded in 2005, Tritone Music Academy focuses on teaching students the fundamentals of music, including how to read music notation and understand basic music theory, using the ukulele and guitar as tools. The academy’s curriculum was built from scratch, written and published by the founder Mr. Kai, and includes three volumes: Ukulele, Beginning Guitar, and Advanced Guitar, which are edited and revised nearly every year for the needs of students. Students perform twice a year in northern Orange County at the annual Jingle Jam holiday show and the year end Spring Epic, and guitar students perform with a full band.
Tritone Music Academy describes itself as Southern California’s leading after school music program and notes that it works with multiple school districts as part of its school district affiliates. The leadership team includes Mr. Tai, Director of Music Education; Mr. Todd, Operations Manager/Team Leader; Mr. John Michael, Guitar and Ukulele Teacher; and Mr. Danny, Band Coach, Guitar and Ukulele Teacher. Teachers are selected for their music education background, years of teaching experience, and passion for music, and staff credentials include studies at Berklee College of Music, a Masters of Arts in Teaching, a college degree in music with honors from the Musicians Institute in Hollywood, and a Commercial Music Degree with training in sound engineering and production and over 20 years of experience across LA and Orange County.
Parent testimonials describe students participating in Project Rock Band, summer camp, after-school guitar lessons, and year-round bands such as The Dollhouse. Parents report that before covid, kids in the program played shows at the Slide Bar and other venues, that PRB summer camp was a week-long, full day small group session with consistent daily practices, and that students receive songs to learn, performance opportunities, and what parents call “rock star experiences.”
