Zen Bushido Kan Karate Do is a non-profit organization that specializes in teaching the Shotokan style of Japanese karate. The program is led by qualified instructors with backgrounds in traditional martial arts and competitive training, including Sensei Jony, Sensei Kiarah, Jony Robert Martinez Ribeiro, and Ricky Jauregui. Its mission states a focus on instilling self-discipline, self-confidence, and self-defense skills in both children and adults, with martial arts classes that emphasize self-discipline and responsibility while developing strength, flexibility, balance, and thinking skills.
The program offers a preschool karate spotlight class and holds Kyu Testing at multiple dojos on scheduled dates. ZBK Karate participated in the Fiestas Invitational on September 14th, sending judges, referees, coaches, volunteers, and competitors, and the team brought home 8 first place trophies, 2 second place, and 4 third place trophies, for a total of 14 trophies. An InterDojo event is being planned exclusively for ZBK students, and Sensei Jony is working with three other schools to develop a new competition opportunity.
Parent and student feedback includes comments about the community feeling, the balance of hard work and fun, and appreciation for how instructors help when students make mistakes. One student, Joshua, age 8 from La Mirada, highlighted exercise, structure, and discipline as the best parts of ZBK.
