About
Young Scientists Camp is a two-week program where campers take part in hands-on science investigations, Cool Chemistry experiments, dissections, and other experiments. Campers also do crafts and go on field trips on campus as part of the camp experience.
• Ages: 7–15 years old
• Schedule: Young Scientists Camp is a two-week program.
Since the year 2000, more than 4,200 campers have spent time with Young Scientists Camp. The teaching staff includes area teachers and CSULB future teachers. Campers meet CSULB scientists and work in the college’s science laboratories during the program. Young Scientists Camp also hosts SEE US Succeed!, a summer science camp program for Long Beach Unified students experiencing homelessness. All students, regardless of race, sex, color, ethnicity, or national origin, who are interested in Young Scientists Camp, are welcome.
Parents describe their children doing many Cool Chemistry experiments, dissections, and other hands-on experiments, as well as activities and crafts related to topics like habitats and STEM. Parent comments note that classes are taught by elementary school teachers with multiple college students helping each class, and that campers take campus field trips to places such as shark and marine labs. Several parents report that their children attended for multiple summers, were eager to attend each day, and wanted to return the following year.
