Imagineerz Learning (Imagineerz@School & Camp Imagineerz)

Imagineerz Learning (Imagineerz@School & Camp Imagineerz) includes makerspace challenges where children may not always know how to get started. At Camp Imagineerz, staff focus on helping each child think through what they could do, encouraging them as they try, and supporting them to completion. The organization teaches children to face challenges with creativity, confidence, and resilience, and promotes an i-Can! mindset and culture at camp through its focus on building i-Can! attitudes and the Imagineerz@School and Camp Imagineerz programs.

Imagineerz@School provides STEM and SEL in one program and offers an active SEL curriculum, STEM enrichment, and Expanded Learning (ELO-P) modules. Imagineerz@School modules include Emotional Regulation, Growth Mindset, Problem Solving, Brain Science, Resilience, and Collaboration, and the Lunch Club offers bonus design challenges. Camp Imagineerz is a summer camp where i-Can! is described as not just a mantra, but a way of living, and it has program groupings of Budz, Rootz & Leadz for grades 1–5, Junior LITs for grades 6–8, and Senior LITs for grades 9–12. Makerspace challenges at Camp Imagineerz are described as being challenging, with children sometimes not knowing how to get started.

Vaibhavi Gala is the founder of Imagineerz Learning and is associated with Camp Imagineerz. Vaibhavi earned a master’s degree in education from Stanford, worked as a research assistant with the Stanford Center for Innovations in Learning, and was involved with corporate learning strategy and curriculum design at Saba Software for 11 years. In 2010, she conceived of an after-school program called PACT PALS for her son’s school, led the team that implemented it, and that program has run successfully for more than a decade. Andre studied theatre arts at California State University Long Beach and has served as the Artistic Director at Imagineerz for more than four years, overseeing summer and school programs and writing scripts and editing video lessons for Imagineerz@School. Shaelan is very close to getting her bachelor’s degree in theatre arts at San Jose State University and plans to obtain an English teaching credential. Matthew studied ethnomusicology and physics at Harvey Mudd College. Megan worked as an elementary music teacher in Arkansas, spent three years as a teacher and teaching coach in China, and has bachelor’s degrees in theatre arts and marketing from the College of William and Mary and a master’s degree in education from Stanford University. Sapna’s career in market research has involved telling stories with data, she freelances for gaming companies, and she has degrees in physics, linguistics, and management. Trevor was an elementary school teacher and coach for seven years, consulted throughout the country to support teachers and administrators with deeper learning, digital portfolios, project-based learning, parent engagement, and technology integration, and he holds an M.A. in Education from Stanford University and an A.B. in Political Science from Washington University in St. Louis. Trevor was recognized as the Silicon Valley CUE Outstanding Emerging Teacher, became a Google Certified Educator and Trainer, hosted the New Books in Education podcast for four years, served for two years as director at Camp Imagineerz, and currently works as the Imagineerz@School liaison to teachers and administrators.

The organization states that it believes there is no substitute for hard work, that failure is a stepping stone towards success, and that a person can achieve whatever they believe they can. A six-year-old camper described the camp experience by saying, “I know I can do it because i-Imagine! i-Can! i-Do!”
