Alma Preschool is part of Alma Family Services and includes a Preschool Center where children participate in early intervention and prevention activities. The program is connected to services such as a Child Abuse Prevention – Early Intervention Program for Children with Developmental Disabilities, Socialization and Community Integration Training, and Family & Peer Support. Children in Alma Preschool also have access to an Aquatics Center that offers programs for children with special needs as part of a broader set of youth development and support services.
Alma Preschool operates within Alma Family Services, which was established in 1975 in East Los Angeles. The program is supported by a professional multidisciplinary, multicultural staff that includes Preschool Teachers, Board Certified Behavior Analysts (BCBA), Behavior Technicians (ABA), Specialized Aquatic Personnel, Psychiatrists, Licensed Marriage & Family Therapists, Licensed Clinical Social Workers, Associate Clinical Social Workers, Licensed Psychiatric Technicians, Child & Family Specialists, Parent Partners, Therapeutic Behavioral Services Providers, Community Integration Training Coaches, Parent Mentors, Case Managers, Wraparound Facilitators, Employment Specialists, Service Access Specialists, Gang Reduction & Youth Development Specialists, Substance Abuse Counselors, and a Medical Director (M.D.). The mission of Alma Family Services states that its work is based on the philosophy that children learn best through play and hands-on experience, teacher–child interactions, and integration of the community and their families.
Alma Preschool is part of a larger organization that offers multilingual and multicultural services and multigenerational social services, including Youth Development Services, a Gang Reduction Youth Development Program (GRYD), Youth Diversion Services, and occupational support focused on removing barriers to employment, promoting the development of employability skills and job placement. Alma Family Services has eight interdisciplinary mental health outpatient office locations and operates programs such as the Centro Estrella Family Resource Center, Socialization and Community Integration Training, and a unique Aquatics Center with programs for children, adolescents, adults, and older adults with special needs. Alma Family Services was honored as a 2024 California Nonprofit of the Year by Assemblymember Lisa Calderon of the 56th District.

Alma Family Services is funded by Riverside University Health System – Behavioral Health, Eastern Los Angeles Regional Center, Los Angeles County Department of Children & Family Services, Los Angeles County Probation Department, City of Los Angeles Mayor’s Office, San Gabriel/Pomona Regional Center, Interagency Council on Child Abuse and Neglect, First Five, and other governmental, foundation and corporate sources, and private donations.
