Anahuak Youth Sports Association Soccer League offers a structured soccer league where children take part in practices and games. In addition to soccer activities, qualified volunteers provide tutoring once a week for players.
• Ages: 5–17 years old
The Anahuak Youth Sports Association was founded in 1994 in Northeast Los Angeles and was incorporated as a non-profit organization in 2000 after it attained affiliation with CalSouth, an affiliate of the U.S. Soccer Federation. The league serves 2,000 girls and boys and involves parents, volunteers, and coaches in overseeing practices and games. Qualified volunteers offer weekly tutoring, and the organization’s mission is to inspire youth to continue their education through scholarship fundraisers and college visits. The organization was created to serve as an alternative to drugs, gangs, and crime, uses soccer as a hook to keep children off of the streets, and helps children whose families cannot afford to pay for league fees and equipment. Anahuak also serves as a leader in mobilizing its members around environmental and health issues that affect the community. The president of Anahuak Youth Sports Association is Raúl Macías, who is also a Board of Directors member of the Council of Mexican Federations in North America.
